Corinne Baker is helping move the railroad industry forward, one milestone at a time

After completing advanced rail training through the TCU/IAM Training Services Department at the Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center, Corinne has officially launched her career with Union Pacific as an Apprentice Freight Mechanic in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her career began on May 18, 2026, marking a major achievement not only for Corinne personally, but also for women pursuing careers in railroad mechanical operations.

Corinne is recognized as the first female employee to join the Mechanical Department at Union Pacific’s Council Bluffs location. Her accomplishment reflects the growing opportunities available for women in skilled transportation careers and highlights the importance of strong industry partnerships that create pathways into high-demand trades.

Through hands-on rail training, Corinne developed the technical skills, discipline, and safety-focused mindset needed to succeed in freight mechanical operations. She now works in Repair-in-Place (RIP) mechanical operations, helping support freight car maintenance and safe railroad operations in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive environment.

Her success story demonstrates how technical training, persistence, and opportunity can come together to build meaningful careers in the railroad industry. Corinne’s achievement also represents continued progress across the transportation sector as employers work to build a stronger and more inclusive workforce.

The TCU/IAM Advanced Transportation Training Program is proud to celebrate Corinne’s accomplishment and looks forward to following her continued success in the railroad industry.
