A National Network of Employers with Industry-Leading Companies

Upon completion of the program, TCU/IAM and Job Corps staff assist students in their job search. Students tap into a national employer network that has been growing since our inception in 1971.

Employer Partners

The United States Department of Labor has contracted with TCU/IAM for almost 50 years to provide advanced training to our nation’s youth through the Job Corps program. During this time we have developed trusted relationships with many employers within the transportation industry including: AMTRAK, Canadian Pacific Railway, Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern, BNSF Railway, TTX Company, UTLX, Alaska Railroad, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Keolis Commuter Services, Metro Transit in Minneapolis, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Los Angeles Metro, Valley Transportation Authority, American Commercial Barge Lines and First Transit, just to name a few!

Benefits to Employers

Our training has been developed and refined by industry experts and TCU/IAM staff to prepare our students for the workplace. Over 90% of our graduates have been placed in jobs related to our training in freight rail, passenger rail and airlines. Trained TCU/IAM students offer many benefits to employer partners including the following:

  • Employability skills—skills are reinforced daily to include punctuality, attendance, communications, leadership and conflict resolution.

  • Rigorous and relevant training—all training material comes from our employer partners to meet industry standards.

  • Understanding of the expectations and demands of the industry—students are aware of the 24/7 on-call work schedule.

  • Willingness to relocate—students are selected by our recruiters understanding that relocation is often necessary to obtain employment.

  • Tenure—all students are looking for career positions in the transportation industry. TCU/IAM students have a demonstrated track record of staying with the company.

  • Safety conscious—students are aware of and consistently practice safe working procedures.

  • Clean drug test—students are drug tested on entry into the program and subject to random testing throughout their training.

  • Vetted for employment—each student must receive a recommendation from all staff before applying for jobs. TCU/IAM staff review all of the above criteria before making a recommendation.

Your graduates come to us with the skills needed for a number of entry-level positions and many have stayed to enjoy a long and rewarding career with AMTRAK. I credit much of this to your training curriculum.
